Dr. G. D. Singh

Dr. G. D. Singh (डॉ गोवर्धनसिंह) (Kajla) (b. 8.7.1946-7.5.2021) was an Agriculture Scientist of repute from Rajasthan, India. He was Dean and Director of Extension Education, Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, from October 2002 to 31 July 2006. He retired on 31 July 2006.

Early life

He was born in the family of Shri Narayan Singh Kajla on 8 July 1946 in village Jerthi in Sikar district (Rajasthan).

Education and Career

He passed M.Sc. (Ag.) in Soil and Water Conservation with Gold Medal. He did his Ph.D. from M.L.S. University of Agriculture, Udaipur (Rajasthan). Dr. Singh served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Head, S.K.N. College of Agriculture, Jobner (Rajasthan) from 1975-1989. He served as Officer-in-Charge and Associate Director (R) in R.A.U. Bikaner, from 1989-2002.

His areas of interest are soil and water management in crop production, and watershed management and use of saline water in crop production. He has about 80 research papers to his credit and has guided 6 Ph.D. students. He has worked on C.C.P.I. in NATP Project on Watershed Management Technology for For Hot Arid Regions from 1999-2002.

He was Dean and Director of Extension Education, Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, from October 2002 to 31 July 2006. He retired on 31 July 2006.

  1. Recipient of I.C.A.R. Fellowship (Jr.) in Soil Physics (1968)
  2. Recipient of Gold Medal at Post Graduate level (1969)
  3. Appreciation as teacher and Head of Agronomy for giving cent percent result of B.Sc. (Ag) classes (1986-1988)
  4. Felicitation work regarding outstanding work in Agricultural Research, writing and administration on 26 January 2003
  5. Conferred "American Medal of Honour" from American Biographical Institute, Inc. North Carolina, USA for 2003
  6. Fellow of Indian Society of Agronomy for 2002, awarded at XVI National symposium of I.S.A. held at P.A.U. Ludhiana in November 2004
  7. Appreciation for Research and Technology writing on Republic Day 26 January 2005 at Bikaner
