Mahendra Singh Choudhary
Major M. S. Chaudhary (7.5.1930-20.10.1962.) was born on 7th May, 1930 in village Dudaldhan Majra, about 40 km from Rohtak, district Jhajjar, Haryana. He became martyr on 20.10.1962 during 1962 India-China War at Sinjang.

His family
His father was Chaudhary Partap Singh, a PCS officer in the joint Punjab and his mother was Smt Sahib Kaur. He lost his father at the age of seven and was brought up by his maternal uncle Major Ameer Singh, a former minister of Haryana. Major Chaudhary was commissioned in the Indian Army on 9th December, 1956 and was promoted to the rank of Major in 1962. He was married and had two children, a son and a daughter.
1962 India-China War
In this war he was posted with 9 Panjab. On 9th October, 1962, Major Chaudhary was ordered to establish a post with two platoons at Sinjang, north of the log bridge in NEFA Sector. On 10th October his post was attacked by a large Chinese force of about a battalion strength. His post did not have sufficient time to dig in and prepare defenses, but Major Chaudhary stood his ground. His men only had light arms and did not have sufficient ammunition, yet they managed to keep the enemy at bay for more than 9 hours. On being ordered, he successfully withdrew his men south of the log bridge. Although wounded, Major Chaudhary refused to be evacuated and continued to lead his men in the subsequent operation on the 20th of October. In this action he was able to inflict more than 100 casualties on the enemy and was later killed. Major M. S. Chaudhary displayed courage and leadership of the highest order. For his bravery he was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) on 20th October, 1962.

भारत-चीन युद्ध 1962
मेजर महेन्द्र सिंह चौधरी का जन्म 7 मई 1930 को अविभाजित पंजाब (अब हरियाणा) के झज्जर जिले की बेरी तहसील के दूबलधन माजरा गांव में पीसीएस अधिकारी श्री प्रताप सिंह चौधरी एवं श्रीमती साहिब कौर के परिवार में हुआ था। मात्र सात वर्ष की अवस्था में महेन्द्र सिंह के पिता का निधन हो गया था, उनका पालन उनके मामा मेजर अमीर सिंह ने किया था। पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय से अपनी शिक्षा पूरी करने के उपरांत 9 दिसंबर 1956 को उन्हें भारतीय सेना की पंजाब रेजिमेंट में लेफ्टिनेंट के पद पर कमीशन प्राप्त हुआ था। वर्ष 1962 में उन्हें मेजर के पद पर पदोन्नत किया गया था। भारत-चीन युद्ध 1962 के समय अपनी यूनिट के साथ वह नेफा में तैनात थे।
9 अक्टूबर 1962 को मेजर चौधरी को नेफा सेक्टर में लॉंग ब्रिज के उत्तर में सिंजंग में दो प्लाटून के साथ एक पोस्ट स्थापित करने का आदेश दिया गया था। 10 अक्टूबर 1962 को उनकी पोस्ट पर लगभग एक बटालियन के संख्या बल में चीनी सैनिकों ने हमला किया था। उनके पोस्ट के पास खाईयां खोदने और बचाव तैयार करने का पर्याप्त समय नहीं था, परंतु मेजर चौधरी दृढ़ता से अपनी पोस्ट पर डटे रहे। उनके जवानो के पास मात्र हल्के हथियार ही थे तथा उनके पास पर्याप्त गोलाबारूद नहीं था, फिर भी वे 9 घंटे से अधिक समय तक दुश्मन को पोस्ट से दूर रखने में सफल रहे। पीछे हटने का आदेश मिलने पर उन्होंने अपने जवानों को लॉंग ब्रिज के दक्षिण में पीछे ले लिया। यद्यपि मेजर चौधरी घायल हो गए थे पर उन्होंने मोर्चे से हटने से मना कर दिया।
20 अक्टूबर 1962 को एक ऑपरेशन में वह अपने जवानों का नेतृत्व कर रहे थे। इस कार्रवाई में उन्होंने 100 से अधिक दुश्मन सैनिकों को क्षति पहुंचाई। अंततः निरंतर लड़ते हुए अपनी चोटों से वह वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए।
मेजर महेन्द्र सिंह चौधरी ने इस ऑपरेशन में अत्यंत उच्च कोटि के साहस, असीम शौर्य और अनुकरणीय नेतृत्व का परिचय दिया। उन्हें मरणोपरांत महावीर चक्र से सम्मानित किया गया।
मेजर महेन्द्र सिंह चौधरी के बलिदान को राष्ट्र युगों-युगों तक स्मरण रखेगा।
