Comparison of Bharatpur State with the principal States
The Bharatpur country has the advantage of being the, most populous and most productive of all the Raputana States, as the following comparison with the principal States shows; it is unnecessary to compare with the States already known to be too small :-
Table - comparison of Bharatpur State with the principal States
Names | Area in sqr. miles | Population souls | Revenue Rupees | Population per sqr. mile | Revenue per sqr. mile |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bharatpur | 1,992 | 5,58,785 | 27,00,000 | 280·5 | 1355·4 |
Alwar | 3,024 | 7,91,668 | 26,00,000 | 261·0 | 859.8 |
Kota-Jhalawar | 6,491 | 7,35,360 | 49,50,000 | 113.2 | 762.5 |
Jaipur | 14,527 | 26,36,647 | 61,00,000 | 181.5 | 419.9 |
Udaipur | 12,670 | 12,93,776 | 37,50,000 | 100.6 | 297·4 |
Jodhpur | 30,568 | 20,57,553 | 43,00,000 | 67.3 | 140.6 |
Bikaner | 22,340 | 7,00,983 | 17,00,000 | 31·8 | 76·0 |
The area and revenue are from Mr. Aitchison's treaties and the population by census of 1911.
Considerable parts of the larger States are alienated in Jagirs; as it is said of Jaipur that the Khalsa or fiscal income of the State is from one third of the territory only, and the other two-thirds are divided among the nobles and religious grants. But even on making allowance for this difference, its average revenue falls short of that of Bharatpur, as 419.9 X 3= 1259·7 is less than 1355·4.
