Somal (सोमाल) is a Gotra of Jats^[1]^[2] found in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

Origin

Somal (Jat clan) = Somalladevi. Somal (सोमाल) is a Gotra of Jats^[3]^[4] found in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Somalladevi was wife of Jagaddëva of Kalchuri dynasty. Somalladevi is mentioned Verse- 15 of Kharod stone Inscription of Ratnadeva II : Chedi year 933 (1181 AD).... (V.15) As Lakshmi was of the enemy of Mura (i.e., of Vishnu), as Rati was of the flowery-bowed (god of love), even so Sômalladëvï (सोमल्लदेवी), honoured for excellences, was [a dear wife] of (that) king. ^[5]

Jat Sikhs of Somal Gotra are present in the villages of Malaudh and Rorian falling under Malaudh sub-tehsil of Ludhiana dist.

Somal Jat Sikh are living in many villages Daomajra, Padiala, Ghataur, Klaur, Sil near Kharar, Mauli near Phagwara ,Raikote Bassian as well in Malaud area.
