History

Very little is known about the Hindu origin of the fort in Adhoni. In 1347, Alauddin Bahmani, and in 1375 Mujahid Shah Bahmani, captured the fort. It was subsequently under the Rajas of Vijayanagar, but after the battle of Talikotta in 1565 it was conquered by the Bijapur kings. An old Hindu temple, built in 13th century of lime and stone with sculpture on the walls, has a black stone slab bearing an inscription in the Devanagri characters.

अधोनी

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर ने लेख किया है ...अधोनी (AS, p.19): हिंदूकाल के दुर्ग के लिए यह स्थान उल्लेखनीय है। इस दुर्ग पर 1347 ई. में अलाउद्दीन खिलजी और 1375 ई0 में मुजाहिदशाह बहमनी ने अधिकार कर लिया था। तत्पश्चात् कुछ समय तक अधोनी का क़िला विजयनगर राज्य के अंतर्गत रहा किंतु तालीकोट के युद्ध (1565 ई0) के पश्चात् यहाँ बीलजापुर रियासत का अधिकार हो गया। अधोनी में 13वीं शती का पत्थर-चूने का बना एक मंदिर भी है जिसकी दीवारों पर मूर्तियां उकेरी हुई हैं। एक काले पत्थर पर देवनागरी लिपि में एक अभिलेख खुदा हुआ है।
