Awathkul:- This village is 6 kms to the south of Kupwara. This village has been settled by a Sardar, named Awathpul in 821 AD. He was cousin of Raja Jai Peeth & a person of high influence. Awathpul became Raja in 852 AD..[1]


Awathkul Meelyal area in the Kupwara district remains snow-bound in the winter. It takes a toll on us whenever there is any medical emergency in our area,” a local said. The nearby place town is Kralpora which is 8 km from Awathkul.[2]
