Badan Singh Chauhan (Kundu) is a Retired General Manager, Tourism Development Corporation, Madhya Pradesh. He was born at village Allika on 11.2.1948 in Palwal district of Haryana.
Introduction of Badan Singh Chauhan
My name is Badan Singh. I put Chauhan as a surname. So my full name is Badan Singh Chauhan. I was born in a village name Allika in a farmer’s family. I received my primary and secondary education (up to 8th grade) from Government Middle School Allika. Then I passed Higher Secondary School Palwal [Higher Secondary (10 + 1)], at that time Higher Secondary was not 10 + 2. I graduated from SD College Palwal (Punjab University of Chandigarh. The 10th and 11th (Higher Secondary) examinations were conducted by Punjab University at that time. (At that time there was no school education board established). Bachelor of Economics I did my graduation from Agra University (RBS College Agra). Studied professionally in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Hospitality Management Institute Panipat (Government of Haryana). I have given my services in the field of tourism. I have served in Haryana tourism for some time and also in Uttar Pradesh. And finally I have served in Madhya Pradesh tourism till retiring most of the time. In February 2010, I retired from the position of General I as a higher officer class one. Four years after retirement, I lived with my son Kildeep Singh Chauhan in Gurugram. Since 2014, I am living in my village Allika. My son is an IT professional (MCA) and his wife Ruchi Singh Chauhan also from IT (M.TECH).
My birth is written in the records (as per the marks sheet of 10th) on 2 February 1950. But actually I was born on 11 February 1948. Father's name is Shibban Singh Chauhan (known as Pahalwal – been a famous in wrestling in his days) and mother's name is Mamkaur. I am the third of seven brothers. Musaka Mohla of the village is my residence. This is ancestral residence.
I remember that time of going days to village school Allika. The books were kept by wrapping books in a cloth. Then a bag is one in which books are kept. Then there used to be a wood Takti. Multani mitti was used to paint it to make it white for writing on by black ink and keep it in the sun to dry. The color of the Takti looked very beautiful after drying. Lines were drawn from the pencil toon Takti. And after that we used to write on it with a pen of reed (Sarkande ki Kalam) and with black ink (syai). For Syai, first they used to make a pot of clay, and then the glass and tin small bottle came in the market. I remember in primary school Mr. Breeji (Brijlal) Chowkidar used to make Kalam of all children. He used to have a knife I still remember that scene very well.
After passing the eighth grade in the year 1962, he got admission in the Government Higher Secondary Palwal in the ninth class. Palwal's or school is 9 km from the village. All children used to go by bicycle. There was a rough route from my village to Ghughera village and it used to be very difficult to walk during rainy days. Road was found in Ghughera a 1.5 km far. It was very nice to feel when we used to reach on the road. I did this routine going to my school – college going from 1962 to 1971 until I my graduation. During the examinations, I used to live in Palwal on a rented room in Palwal city for a few months. I have been staying in hostels of Higher Secondary School from time to time in examination days.
Nowadays, living in the village, I am spending my time in self-study and taking interest in writing. My interest in studies is in history.
My entire job life was spent in cities, tourism centers with maximum facilities. Now when I am living in the village, its enjoyment is different, which is directly a deep truly feel in the mind. There is no texture in the village. The atmosphere is calm and it is nice to live in a village away from the run of the town. And I am a resident of a village, from a farmers family, so I decided to stay in the village and have met my villagers, whom I had forgotten the village people while away from their jobs. These people are my own and I am living in my own people.

My name is Badan Singh. I think Chauhan as a nickname. Full name is Badan Singh Chauhan.
Many people often ask me that my gotra is Kundu, so why do I put Chauhan as a surname in front of my name. I would like to clarify that the gotrs of Jats of my village Allika is Kundu. I am also from Kundu gotra and I am Kundu as per the Records and history of gotra lineage narrated by our Bhaat - The history of gotras is with our Bhaat. These Bhats use to go village to village and read the genealogy of the village and the family. The statement of these speeches can be believed to a great extent. The people of our village who have been coming since the beginning have been telling us like this. Chauhan is a clan - that is, a branch of Jats. And gotra is our kundu in this Chauhan branch. There can be many gotras in Chauhan clan. Like Gotra Kundu in our village and we belong to Chauhan clan. But Mitrol, Aurangabad, Atohan are Chauhans in the village, but their gotra is Rai Bidar. The people of these villages do not write any surname Rai Bidar and all the people here only write Chauhan. Before the 1960s, people did not even put a surname in front of his name. People were not educated, so they did not use surname. Education expanded in the village, people started getting educated and then the practice of surname started. Bhaat said that we have our gotra Kundu in Chauhan clan. The educated people considered it a matter of pride to put the name Chauhan in front of their names. And did not start writing Kundu. Kundu has gone back to writing later in the 1980s. When they saw that the people of Kundu gotra in western Haryana are writing the surname Kundu with great pride and are in well respected positions, there are also Kundu people in politics. With the aim of furthering our Kundu identity, we started writing Kundu in front of our name. It benefited that the Kundu people of West Haryana, we have come to know five villages of village Allika group (our Kundu gotra village are Allika, and its four Nagaras ‘Yadupur, Rajola ka, Kaira ka, Kakrali.’ These nagaras are separated establishment from my village Allika.
So we the people of village Allika are Chauhan and gotra is our Kundu. Whether we write Chauhan or Kundu, both of these are correct.
जीवन परिचय
बदन सिंह चौहान का जन्म एक किसान परिवार में गाँव अल्लिका में हुआ। आपने अपनी प्राथमिक और माध्यमिक शिक्षा (8 वीं कक्षा तक) गवर्नमेंट मिडिल स्कूल अल्लिका से प्राप्त की। हायर सेकेंडरी [उच्च माध्यमिक (10 + 1)] उत्तीर्ण किया, उस समय उच्चतर माध्यमिक 10 + 2 नहीं था। एसडी कॉलेज पलवल (पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय चंडिगढ़ से स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की। उस समय पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा 10 वीं और 11 वीं (उच्चतर माध्यमिक) परीक्षा आयोजित की जाती थी । (उस समय कोई स्कूल शिक्षा बोर्ड स्थापित नहीं था)। अर्थशास्त्र में स्नातक स्तर की पढ़ाई आगरा विश्वविद्यालय (आरबीएस कॉलेज एग्रो) से की है) । हॉस्पिटैलिटी मैनेजमेंट इंस्टीट्यूट पानीपत (हरियाणा सरकार) से पर्यटन और आतिथ्य प्रबंधन में पेशेवर अध्ययन किया । पर्यटन के क्षेत्र में अपनी सेवाएं दी हैं | हरियाणा पर्यटन में रहा कुछ समय और उत्तर प्रदेश में भी सेवा की है | और अंत में अधिकांश समय रिटायर होने तक मध्य प्रदेश पर्यटन में सेवा की है | एक उच्च अधिकारी के रूप में जनरल मैंने के पद से रिटायर हुए वर्ष फरवरी 2010 में | रिटायरमेंट के बाद चार वर्ष अपने बेटे के पास गुरुग्राम में रहे | वर्ष 2014 से अपने गाँव अल्लिका में निवासरत हैं|
आपका जन्म अभिलेखों में (10 वी की मार्क्स शीट के अनुसार) 2 फरवरी 1950 लिखा हुआ है | परन्तु वास्तव में 11 फरवरी 1948 को हुआ था | पिता का नाम शिब्बन पहलवान और माता का नाम मामकौर है | आप सात भाइयों में तीसरे नंबर पर हैं| गाँव के मूसाका मोहला में निवास है। यह आपका पुश्तैनी निवास है।
गाँव स्कूल अल्लिका में जाने का वह समय बार बार याद आता रहता है। एक कपडा में पुस्तकों को लपेट कर बस्ता बना लिया जाता था। बस्ता वह होता है जिसमें पुस्तकें रखी जाती हैं। फिर एक तकती हुआ करती थी लकड़ी की। उसको मुल्तानी मिट्टी से पुताई करते थे और सूखने के लिए धूप में रखते थे। सूखने के बाद तकती का रंग बहुत सुंदर लगता था । पेन्सिल से तकती पर लाइने खींचते थे। और उसके बाद उस पर लिखते थे सरकंडे की कलम से और काली स्याई से। स्याई के लिए पहले पहले तो मिट्टी की कुल्हो की दवात बना लेते थे और फिर कांच की और टिन की दवात आने लगी। मुझे याद है प्राइमरी स्कूल में ब्रीजी (बृजलाल) चौकीदार सभी बच्चों की कलम बनाया करता था। उसके पास एक चाक़ू रहता था । वह सब दृश्य मुझे अभी तक अच्छी तरह याद है ।
वर्ष 1962 में आठवीं कक्षा उत्तीर्ण करने पश्चात नविन कक्षा में गवर्नमेंट हायर सेकेंडरी पलवल में प्रवेश लिया। पलवल का या स्कूल गाँव से 9 किलो मीटर दूर है। साइकिल से जाते थे सभी बच्चे । गाँव से घुघेरा तक कच्चा रास्ता था और बरसात के दिनों में चलना बहुत कठिन हो जाता था। घुघेरा में सड़क मिलती थी। बहुत अच्छा लगता था जब सड़क पर कहते थे। यह साइकिल से जाना आना कॉलेज जाने तक किया 1962 से 1971 तक किया। परीक्षाओं के दिनों में पलवल शहर में कुछ महीनो के लिए कमरा किराए पर राजा करते थे। समय समय पर हायर सेकंडरी स्कूल के हॉस्टल में बी रहे।
आजकल गाँव में रह कर अपना समय स्वयं अध्ययन में व्यतीत कर रहे हैं। अध्ययन में रूचि इतिहास में है । पूरा नौकरी का जीवन शहरों में, पर्यटन केन्द्रो में अधितम सुविधाओं के साथ व्यतीत किया है। गाँव में रहने का आनंद अलग ही है जो सीधा मन को छूता है। कोई बनावट नहीं होती है गाँव में । शांत वातावरण रहता है और शहर की भाग दौड़ से दूर गाँव में रहना अच्छा लगता है। गाँव में रह कर अपने गाँव वालों में मिल गये हैं जो नौकरी के समय दूर रह कर गाँव लोगों को भूल सा गए थे।
चौहान और कुंडू
आपका नाम बदन सिंह है । उपनाम के रूप में चौहान लिखते हैं। पूरा नाम बदन सिंह चौहान है। अल्लिका गाँव के जाटों का गोत्र कुंडू है। आप भी कुंडू गोत्र के हैं. गोत्र वंशावली के बारे में अभिलेख व वंश - गोत्रों का इतिहास भाटों के पास होता है । ये भाट गाँव गाँव जाते हैं और गाँव व परिवार की वंशावली पढ़ कर सुनाते है । इन भाटों के कथन पर बहुत सीमा तक विश्वास किया जा सकता है । इस गाँव के भाट प्रारम्भ से ही जो आते रहे हैं वह इस प्रकार बताते आ रहे हैं । चौहान एक कुल है - अर्थात एक शाखा है जाटों की । और इस चौहान शाखा में गोत्र कुंडू है । चौहान कुल में अनेको गोत्र हो सकते है । इस गाँव में गोत्र कुंडू है और सभी चौहान कुल के हैं ।
परन्तु मित्रोल, औरंगाबाद, अटोहाँ गाँव में चौहान हैं परन्तु इनका गोत्र राय बिड़ार है । इन गाँव के लोग कोई भी उपनाम राय बिडार नहीं लिखते है और यहां सभी लोग चौहान ही लिखते है । 1960 के दशक से पहले तो अपने नाम के आगे उप नाम लगाते ही नहीं थे । लोग शिक्षित नहीं थे इस लिए उप नाम नहीं लगाते थे । गाँव में शिक्षा का विस्तार हुआ, लोग पढ़े लिखे होने लगे तो उपनाम लगाने का चलन प्रारम्भ हुआ । भाट ने बताया कि हम चौहान कुल में हमारा गोत्र कुंडू है । पढ़े लिखे लोगों ने अपने नाम के आगे चौहान उपनाम लगाना एक गौरव की बात मानी । और कुंडू लिखना प्रारम्भ नहीं किया । कुंडू तो अब बाद में जा कर 1980 के दशक के बाद में लोगों ने लिखना प्रारम्भ किया है । उन लोगों ने जब यह देखा की पश्चिमी हरयाणा में कुंडू गोत्र के लोग बड़ी शान से उपनाम कुंडू लिख रहे हैं और अच्छे सम्मानित पदों पर हैं, राजनीति में भी कुंडू लोग हैं । अपनी कुंडू पहचान को और आगे बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से हम लोगों ने अपने नाम के आगे कुंडू लिखना प्रारम्भ कर दिया । इससे यह लाभ हुआ की पश्चिम हरियाणा के कुंडू लोग हम अल्लिका गाँव के पांच गाँवों को जानने लगे हैं । भाई चारा बढ़ा है इससे । तो अल्लिका गाँव के लोग चौहान ही है और गोत्र हमारा कुंडू है । चाहे हम चौहान लिखे या कुंडू लिखें, ये दोनो सही हैं ।
