Satbir Singh Gandas

Satbir Singh Gandas [1] (born 1955) son of Chaudhary Nand Lal Gandas of village Mehrauli in Delhi. A grassroots Jat leader [2], social worker and senior politician belonging to the Indian National Congress. He has previously served as the Municipal Councillor of Mehrauli constituency for three consecutive terms 1997,2002 and 2007. Became Mayor of Delhi Municipal Corporation in year 2005 [3]. He contested for MLA election from "Mehrauli" Vidhan Sabha in 2015. His wife Pushpa Satbir Singh was also MCD councilor from Mehrauli ward in 2012.
Career
While pursuing his graduation in Economics Honours at Delhi University in 1975, he got involved with National Student's Union of India, student wing of the Indian National Congress and went on to become the President of NSUI Delhi Unit for four consecutive years (1978-1981).
As the Delhi Mayor, he took up the cause of Delhi villages and in an unprecedented move, got Property Tax fully Exempted on Residential properties in All Villages of Delhi (urban as well as rural). His tenure as Mayor of Delhi is worth remembering for property tax exemption being granted on residential properties in Delhi villages [4] and also for computerization of toll plazas for smooth traffic flow in Delhi. [5]
