Dhakarba (ढाकारबा), is a village in Patiala tehsil and district of Punjab.

History

Village Dhakarba [pronounced as 'ढकड़बा' ; Dhak-rh (as in ChandigaRH)-ubba] was founded about 400 years ago (1600-1700 AD) by Jat Sikhs of Nirwan (also spelt as Narwan) gotra, as were the other 14 nearby villages of the same gotra.

Education

Dhakarba village has a Middle School, a Telephone Exchange, a Govt. Dispensary, a Vet. hospital and a Water Works for supply of quality water to the surrounding villages. The village owes a lot to Dr. Sudhir Verma, DM (Cardiology), who had started his career from the village dispensary. He took pains to get the school upgraded from Primary to Middle level, besides providing excellent medical care/facilities at the dispensary. Late S. Niranjan Singh (a retired police officer belonging to the village), a social activist, worked tirelessly for upgrading the School & Gurdwara buildings, popularising adult education and encouraging younger generation to pursue education wholeheartedly. S. Balraj Singh Riar, an NRI from Canada, pitched in by providing scholarships to the meritorious students. S. Avninder Singh, ex-Sarpanch of the village takes keen interest in the development of the village infrastructure and provides leadership for social, economic and religious awareness among the village population.
