Hiranyakavarsha (हिरण्यकवर्ष) was a country mentioned in Mahabharata subjugated by Arjuna in his northern conquests.

Hiraṇyavarṣha (हिरण्यवर्ष) is the son of king Kanakavarṣa obtained as a result of a boon from Kārttikeya, according to the Kathāsaritsāgara, chapter 55. Accordingly, “... then the god [Kārttikeya] said [to king Kanakavarṣa]: ‘Thou shalt have a son, the incarnation of one of my Gaṇas, and his name shall be Hiraṇyavarṣa on the earth’. And then the rider on the peacock summoned him to enter his inmost shrine, in order to show him special favour...”.

हिरण्यकवर्ष

हिरण्यकवर्ष (AS, p.1023): महाभारत, सभापर्व, 28 दाक्षिणात्यपाठ के अनुसार अपनी उत्तर दिशा की दिग्विजय यात्रा के प्रसंग में अर्जुन हिरण्यकवर्ष पहुचे थे। यह रम्यकवर्ष के उत्तर में स्थित था जिससे यह भीष्मपर्व 9 में वर्णित हिरण्मयवर्ष का ही पर्याय जान पड़ता है- 'सश्वेतं पर्वतं राजन् समतिक्रम्य पांडव:, वर्षं हिरण्यकं नाम विवेशाथ महीपते। स तु देशेषुरम्येषुगन्तुं तत्रोपचक्रमे, मध्ये प्रासादवृन्देषु नक्षत्राणां शशी यथा। महापथेषु राजेन्द्रसवतोयान्तमर्जुनम् प्रासादवरश्रृंगस्था:, परया वीर्यशोभया, ददृशुस्ताः स्त्रियः सर्वाः पार्थमात्मयशस्करम्’। [1]
