Hiraṇmaya (हिरण्मय) was particular region in Jambudvipa, to the south of Nila Mountain and to the north of Nishadha Mountain mentioned in Mahabharata.

1a) Hiraṇmaya (हिरण्मय).—A son of Āgnīdhra.*

1b) A continent bounded by Śveta hills on one side. Here Aryaman and other Pitṛs worship Viṣṇu in the form of Kūrma, as the embodiment of the Sānkhya system.*

हिरण्मय

हिरण्मय (p.1023): विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर ने लेख किया है ....महाभारत के भूगोल के अनुसार जंबूद्वीप का एक विभाग है- 'दक्षिणेन तु नीलस्यः निषधस्योत्तरेणतु, वर्ष हिरण्मयं यत्र हैरण्वती नदी। यत्र चायं महाराज पक्षिराट् पतगोत्तमः, यक्षानुगा महाराज धनिनः प्रियदर्शनाः। महाबलास्तत्र जना राजन् मुदितमानसा, एकादशसहस्त्राणि वर्षाणां ते जनाधिप, आयु: प्रमाणं जीवन्ति शतानि दश पंच च, श्रृंगाणि च विचित्राणि त्रीण्येव मनुजाधिप। एकं मणिमयं तत्र तथैकं रौक्ममद्भुतम् सर्वरत्ममयं चैकं भवनैरूपशोभितम्, तत्र स्वयं प्रभादेवी नित्यं वसति शांडिली’। (महाभारत, भीष्मपर्व 9, 5-6-7-8-9-10)

विष्णुपुराण 2, 3, 13 में हिरण्य को रम्यक के उत्तर ओर उत्तरकुरू के दक्षिण में बताया गया है- ‘रम्यकंचोत्तरं वर्ष तस्यैवानु हिरण्मयम्, उत्तराः कुरवःश्चैव तथा वै भारत तथा’।

इस प्रकार इसकी स्थिति साइबेरिया के दक्षिण भाग मंगोलिया के परिवर्ती प्रदेश में मानी जा सकती है।
