Jalasandha (जलसंध) was a warrior of Mahabharata period. He was brother of of Duryodhana who was one of seven brothers of Duryodhan slain on Day Four fight Kurukshetra War. They were Senapati, Jalasandha, Ugra, Viravahu, Bhima, Bhimaratha, Sulochana.
Jat Gotras from Jalasandha
Jaggal (जग्गल) is gotra of Jats. It originated from Maharaja Jalasandha (जलसंध). They were called Jaggal due to being the inhabitants of Jangladesh. [1]
In Mahabharata
We find mention of Jalasandha in various Parvas of Mahabharata:
- "Having slain Jalasandha, in battle, Satwata quickly felled the wooden structure, O king, from that elephant's back." —The Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, Volume 2 Books 4, 5, 6 and 7
- "Alambusha, of Srutayus, of Jalasandha, of Shomadatta, of Virata, of the great warrior-in-chariot Drupada, of Ghatotkacha and others; in this Parva," - The Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa Translated into English Prose Adi Parva
- "Yuyutsu, and Duhsasana and Vikarna and Jalasandha and Sulochana, -- these and many other foremost of Kshatriya princes of great prowess, vied with one another in becoming the foremost in the attack." — The Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa Translated into English Prose Adi Parva.
