Jyani Jat was a brave Jat from Jyani Gotra. Brahmans maligned him by calling Jyani Chor.

Most popular hero in Jat folklore

He is one of the most popular and widely sung hero in Jat folklore. His legends are still heard in the Haryanvi and Punjabi folk tales and are passed down from generation to generation as oral tradition in Haryana and Punjab. Many singers have also sung his legends. He used to loot the wealthy and cruel Sahukars and distribute it to the poor. He was a true son of his mother land. He used to save Hindu women from muslim ruler's cruelty. He was proud of his religion and roots. His Baodi/Surang is still present in Meham. It is said that no one could ever catch him. He even used to wear woman attire to fool his enemies. He is still widely sung and heard in ragnis and folk songs.
