Kandanaseri (कंडनसेरी) is a prehistoric Megalith burial site in Trichur (Thrissur) district of Kerala. It is known for ancient umbrella stones which have not been researched.

Location

Kandanassery is a village in Thrissur district in the state of Kerala, India. Located between Guruvayoor and Choondal road, Kandanassery is a village known for its coconut tappers and agriculturalists. Kandanassery has borders with adjacent villages of Chowalloor, Mattom, Thaikkad, Nambazhakkad and Chowalloorpady.

History

Ariyannur Umbrellas is a prehistoric Megalith burial site situated in Ariyannur in Kandanassery Panchayat of Thrissur District of Kerala. Archaeological Survey of India in 1951 declared it as a centrally protected monument. The site has six umbrella stones or mushroom stones, locally called Kudaikkallu. Of them, four are intact and two are partially broken.[1]

Kandanassery is the home of Industrialist M.P Ramachandran, the chairman of Jyothy Laboratories. Many people of Kandanassery are NRI's working mostly in the Middle East.

Noted Monuments with historic significance near Kandanassery are the Munimada, Kalluthipara and Kodakkal.

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[2] ने लेख किया है ...कंडनसेरी (AS, p.122) छत्राकार (umbrella stones) के प्राचीन अवशेषों के लिए यह स्थान उल्लेखनीय है. इन पाषाणों का अभिज्ञान अभी तक अनिश्चित है.
