Mahivati (महीवती) is a city mentioned in Buddhacharita. It has not been identified yet but it may probably be ancient Stambhatirtha (स्तंभतीर्थ) (=Khambhat).

'Going then to Mahivati, he converted the Rishi Kapila, and the Muni remained remained with him, his foot stepping on the stone, the thousand spoked tween-wheels appeared, which never could be erased.'[1]
महीवती
महीवती (AS, p.728): 'तब तथागत ने तपस्वी कपिल को महीवती में विनीत बनाया जहां शिला पर में मुनि के चरण अंकित थे'-- बुद्धचरित 21,24. इस नगरी का अभिज्ञान अनिश्चित है. संभवत: यह मही नदी या माही के तट पर स्थित है प्राचीन स्तंभतीर्थ (=खंभात) है. बुद्धचरित 21,22 में शूर्पारक का उल्लेख है जो प्रसंग से महीवती के निकट ही होना चाहिए. अत: यह अभिज्ञान ठीक जान पड़ता है.[2]
