Morvi (मोरवी) is a city and district of Saurashtra region in Gujarat. Its ancient name was Mayuradhvajapuri (मयूरध्वजपुरी).[1]

Location

It is situated on the Kathiawar peninsula. The town of Morbi is situated on the Machchhu River, 35 km from the sea and 60 km from Rajkot.

Machchhu River (Hindi: मचछु नदी, Gujarati: મચ્છુ નદી) is a river in western India in Gujarat whose origin is Madla hills. The river is also occasionally transliterated as Machhu River.

History

Ram Swarup Joon[2] writes that some Gondal people call themselves descendants of the Chauhans, but others associate themselves with Lord Krishna. According to historical evidence Jarija and Yadu Bhan were two brothers in the dynasty of Krishna. Jarija established his rule in Kathiawar, Gujarat. The present chieftains of Jamnagar, Dharol, Rajkot, Gonal and Morvi belonged to this very dynasty but all of, them now claim to be Rajputs. The Gondal of Rawalpindi, Cambalpur, Shapur, Mainwali are called Jats. Bosal, Tole, Jaspal, Sanatana and Gogh are branches of the Gondals.


During the British Raj era, Morvi State was one of several princely states governed by the Jadeja dynasty of Rajputs. It was classified as an 11-gun salute state.[3] Morbi has many Heritage site like New Palace, Mani Mandir (Vagh Mahel), Darbar Gadh, Zulta Pul (Hanging Bridge), Nagar Darwaja, Green Tower etc.

Jadeshwar Mahadev Mandir

Jadeshwar Mahadev Mandir located in near Wankaner City of Vadsar Lake in the jadeshwar village of Morbi district of Gujarat, India. Stand tall mountain greenery in picturesque surroundings between Wankaner to vadasara Lake. The lake is a short further historical of jadeswar Mahadev. The spontaneous emergence of Mahadev ancient history and is very juicy. The history begins when the existing avatars Nava nagar jamar valathi.[4]

मोरवी (कठियावाड़, गुजरात)

मोरवी (AS, p.764), कठियावाड़, गुजरात में स्थित है. इस नगर का प्राचीन पौराणिक नाम मयूरध्वजपुरी कहा जाता है. स्थानीय जनश्रुति के अनुसार मूलराज सोलंकी नामक सौराष्ट्र नरेश ने मोरबी में एक सहस्त्र वेद पाठी ब्राह्मणों को उत्तर भारत से लाकर बसाया था. मूलराज की मृत्यु 997 ई. में हुई थी. मोरबी नगर मच्छी नदी के तट पर बसा हुआ है. यहां का विशाल मणिमंदिर एक परकोटे के भीतर स्थित है. यह स्थापत्य कला का सुंदर उदाहरण है.
