Ran Mal Jat (रणमल जाट) founded Ranthambore by putting a stambh (pillar) at the location of present Ranthambore in about 7th century. He challenged the neighbouring rulers for battle. The area around Ranthambore was ruled by Gora and Nagil Jats two centuries prior to the rule of Chauhans.[1]
