It is about 75 kilometres Delhi on No. I towards Panipat. It has a municipal committee and a tehsil headquarters. Its located on National Highway No. 1 (GT Road), and on railway line, many industrial units have been established here. Samalkha is a constituency of Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
It is a historical village. Its boys fought in 1857 freedom war. Originally the village has hindu Jat gotrs Beniwal, Kaliramana and Kuhar. Now this village has grown into a town/tehsil. Some Jats belonging to other gotrs have also come from different places and have settled here. Its better known for its trading centre.
