- Sawant (Jat clan) = Savanta (सावंत). Savanta (सावंत) is mentioned Verse-9 of Rajim Stone Inscription of Prithvideva II - Kalachuri Year 896 (=1145 AD)...... (V. 9) Through fear of him, the formidable foes, — the Mayurikas (मायूरिक) and the valiant Savantas (सावंत), — the lords of mandalas, completely submitted to him. (p.456)....The six lines (7-12) describe the achievements of Jagapâla. The Mâyûrikas (मायूरिक) and Sâvantas (सावंत), dreadful enemies as they were, submitted to him. Of these the Mâyûrikas may refer to the contemporary rulers of the Bhanja dynasty while the Savantas have been identified by Rai Bahadur Hiralal with the aboriggial tribe of the Sâontas in the Bilaspur District (J C P PB , second ed, p 107) (p.452)[1]
