Subarnapur (सुबर्णपुर), also known as Sonepur (सोनपुर), is a town and district of Odisha. The district spreads over an area of 2284.89 km2.

History
Sonepur was formerly the capital of Sonepur State, a princely state of British India. Subarnapur is also famous for silk, handloom, prawns, terracotta etc.
Kharod stone Inscription of Ratnadeva II : Chedi year 933 (1181 AD) mentions Suvarnapura as ruled by king Bhujabala.....[1] Suvarnapura is modern Sonpur, formerly the capital of a feudatory state of the same name in the State of Orissa. (p.535)
(V.6) His son was the king Jâjalladëva (जाजल्लदेव) (I), who, by the might of his arms, deprived Bhujabala (भुजबल), the lord of Suvarnapura (सुवर्णपुर), of his power in a hostile encounter.

सुबर्णपुर
सुबर्णपुर, जो सोनपुर भी कहलाता है, भारत के ओड़िशा राज्य के सुबर्णपुर ज़िले में स्थित एक नगर है। यह उस ज़िले का मुख्यालय भी है। नामोत्पत्ति: यहाँ पर तेल नदी के किनारे प्रसिद्ध सुबर्णमेरु (स्वर्णमेरु) मन्दिर स्थित है, और इसी मन्दिर पर नगर का नाम पड़ा है। सुबर्णपुर राज्य के पश्चिमोत्तरी भाग में महानदी और तेल नदी के संगमस्थल पर स्थित है। राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग 57 यहाँ से गुज़रता है और उसके साथ राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग १२६ए का जंक्शन भी यही स्थित है। सुबर्णपुर में भारतीय रेल का सोनपुर रेलवे स्टेशन सेवारत्त है।
