History
Bhadrāśvakhaṇḍa (भद्राश्वखण्ड) refers to one of the seven regions (navakhaṇḍa) situated within Jambūdvīpa, according to Parākhyatantra 5.61. It is also known as plainly Bhadrāśva. Jambūdvīpa is one of the seven continents situated within the world of the earth (pṛthivī). These continents are located above the seven pātālas and may contain even more sub-continents within them, are round in shape, and are encircled within seven concentric oceans.
According to the Parākhyatantra, “that excellent horse (bhadro ’śvaḥ) Uccaiḥśravas carne forth from the churning of the ocean of milk; because the horse wanders in this land mass, therefore it is known as Bhadrāśva”.
In the middle of these nine regions (eg., Bhadrāśvakhaṇḍa) is situated the golden mountain named Meru which rises above the surface of the earth by 84,000 yojanas while it penetrates the circle of the earth to a depth of sixteen yojanas.
The Parākhyatantra is an old Śaiva-siddhānta tantra dating from before the 10th century.

भद्राश्व
विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[1] ने लेख किया है ...भद्राश्व (AS, p.659): पौराणिक भूगोल के अनुसार भद्राश्व जंबूद्वीप का एक भाग है. इसके उपास्य देव हयग्रीव हैं. विष्णु पुराण में भद्राश्व को मेरु के पूर्व में माना है-- 'भद्राश्वं पूर्वतो मेरो: केतुमालं च पश्चिमे' विष्णु पुराण 2,2,23. विष्णु पुराण 2,2,34 में सीता या तारिम नदी को भद्राश्व की नदी कहा गया है-- इस वर्णन से भद्रा स्वयं चीन का प्राचीन पौराणिक नाम जान पड़ता है महाभारत सभा पर्व में अर्जुन की उत्तर दिशा की दिग्विजय यात्रा में उनका भद्रास पर पहुंचना भी वर्णित है सभा पर्व 28 दक्षिणा पत्ते पाठ देखें चीता
