Binsar

Binsar (बिनसर) is a village in Almora district of Uttarakhand. It is one of the most scenic spots in the Kumaun region in Himalayas . It is summer capital of the erstwhile Chand Rajas (7th - 18th Century). Other Binsar is in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.

Location
This picturesque, sleepy hamlet is situated at an altitude of 2,420 mtrs. It offers a majestic view of the snow covered Himalayan peaks, the mesmerising ranges - Chaukhamba, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Shivling and Panchchuli. On a sunny day, one can have a glimpse of the holy shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath and Gangotri. Binsar sits on top of the Jhandi Dhar hills in the Himalayas, about 33 km north of Almora town in Uttarakhand. [1]
History
Binsar was the summer capital of the Chand Kings, who ruled over Kumaon from the 11th to 18th centuries AD. Binsar was established in 1988 for the conservation and protection of the shrinking broad leaf oak (Quercus) forests of the Central Himalayan region, and it has over 200 bird species.
बिनसर, जिला अल्मोड़ा
विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[2] ने लेख किया है .....1. बिनसर (AS, p.629): जिला अल्मोड़ा उत्तराखंड में अल्मोड़ा से 14 मील पर प्राचीन स्थान है जहाँ बिनसर महादेव का पुराना मंदिर है.
2. बिनसर (AS, p.629): जिला गढ़वाल उत्तराखंड में पौड़ी से 42 मील पूर्व स्थित है। प्राचीन नाम विंश्येश्वर कहा जाता है. सातवीं से बारहवीं सदी तक यहां बहुत सुंदर मूर्तियां बनती थी जिनकी कला का मुख्य तत्व सजीवता तथा भाव प्रवणता है। अलंकरण तथा बाहरी सजावट को यहां की कला में अधिक महत्व नहीं दिया जाता था।
बिनसर परिचय
बिनसर का एक समृद्ध , विविध और आकर्षक इतिहास है. बिनसर चंद वंश की राजधानी थी जो की 7 वीं और 8 वीं शताब्दी के बीच कुमाउं क्षेत्र पर शासन करता था. चंद राजवंश के शासक इस शांत शहर की पहाडियों और प्रकर्ति के बीच सुखुद मौसम और शांतिपूर्ण दृश्यों का आनंद लेने के लिए गर्मियों में बिनसर गए थे. बिनसर क्षेत्र में गोलू देवता और बिनसर के राजा के बीच एक पौराणिक युद्ध भी देखा गया है. गोलू देवता, जो गौर भैरव या भगवान शिव का अवतार माने जाते हैं , वो उत्तराखंड के कुमाउं क्षेत्र में पौराणिक और ऐतिहासिक भगवान हैं. ग़लतफ़हमी के परिणाम के रूप में , गोलू देवता का सिर काट दिया गया था और उनका सूँढ अब बिनसर वन्यजीव अभयारण के निकट ग्यारड दाना गोलू में गिर गया था और इनका निर्णायक सिर कपकरहन में गिर गया. इन दोनों जगहों पर अभी भी भगवान गोलू को समर्पित मंदिर है. बिनसर क्षेत्र में ही स्थित है प्रसिद्ध महादेव मंदिर अर्थात “बिनसर महादेव मंदिर“.[3]
