History

Jai Baba Ratan Shaheed Ji Maharaj

Baba Ratan Shaheed's father was Raja Santal and mother was Sheelavanti. They were residents of Ayodhya. Even after many years of marriage, Raja Santal had no children. As per the advice of his family priest Lakshmi Narayan, Raja Santal left Ayodhya and settled in the Mughal Empire, and came to a place called Chand (Garh Ghazni) which is now in Afghanistan. There, Hazrat Shah Ali Darvesh blessed him with children and also said that the name of the animal which is forbidden to Muslims will not be taken by the descendants of Raja Santal.

Raja Santal had two sons, the elder one, Dattan and Rattan. It is believed that Rattan was born on Navchandra Aitwar Magh (Dharmi) month Vikram Samt 1456 AD (1399). Raja Santal's father's name was Raja Kube and Raja Santal had a brother. Whose name was Mantal, he died at the age of seven-eight years. Some time after the birth of Baba Rattan Shaheed Ji, his mother Sheelavanti Ji died. Then Raja Santal married Mata Sheelavanti Ji's younger sister Kokula Vanti Ji for the second time. Mata Ji's father's name was Raja Kurupal Chauhan.

Mata Kokula Vanti gave birth to six sons. Whose names were Siddhshadi, Sukhdev, Jaydev, Pula, Satiya and Sulu. After the death of Raja Santal, all the eight brothers decided to create their own estates. To create the estate, they had to fight with the Mughals. At that time, there was a tradition of capturing land by racing horses and showing off one's strength. First of all, he fought with the Mughals in Multan and captured the estate there for Siddhshadi. Then the estate of Kotla Kankrali was given to Jaidev and Sukhdev. Five brothers came to Langdeal(R.S. Pura, Jammu) and captured an estate which was given to Dattan. The remaining four brothers established an estate for Raja Sulu in a place called Shula in Chhamb Sector (which is now in Pakistan). Pula and Satia were from Chand. The Mughals pressured them to change their religion. Under their pressure, Pula and Satia converted to Islam and changed their names, Pula changed his name to Sultan Khan and Satia changed his name to Daler Khan.

When the Mughals pressured Baba Rattan to change his religion, Baba Ji refused and a war broke out between them. Baba Ji was very brave. Baba Ji was a worshipper of Raja Mandalik and Mata Kalka. In the war, Mata Kalka blessed Baba Baba Ji started fighting the Mughals with great bravery. Siddhshadi, Jaidev, Sukhdev and Suju joined Baba Ji in the war as soon as they came to know about it. Raja Dattan did not reach this war. This war took place in Multan, Kotla Kankrali, Nagyal and Mangyal. In Mangwal, Baba Ji was hit by Khan Mohammad's arrow. Baba Ji's neck was cut and fell on his hand. Baba Ji continued fighting even then. He reached near the well in Sula village where four women were filling water. When they saw Baba Ji fighting with his head in his hands, they started discussing this incident. Then Baba Ji fell there and Baba Ji ordered Yogi Avdu Nath to spread the news by playing drums in every village and said that my descendants will not keep, touch or take the name of a wild animal (whose name is not to be taken). Baba Ji attained martyrdom at the well itself. Baba Ji's first servant (disciple) was named Diwana. His temple is still there. Before the 1947 war, all the Nagdyal descendants used to go there to pay their respects. Mata Keshana, whose father's name was Jaimal Singh Toor and mother Gurdei, were residents of village Talle Wali (which is now in Pakistan), committed sati with Baba Ji. In this way, Baba Ji sacrificed his life for religion. After the India-Pak partition, this temple was built in Chhamb and its manager was late Subedar Amar Singh Ji. After the 1971 war, Baba Ji's temple was built in village Chakroi Ranbir Singh Pura. Late Choudhary Chela Ram Ji donated 15 marla land and its manager was late Choudhary Sardar Singh Ji. Before becoming sati, Mata Keshana took a vow that her descendants should not wear blue or black clothes. They should not wear glass bangles or indigo on clothes. On the New Moon Sunday, washing of clothes and women's hair is prohibited and it is forbidden for a boy from the Toor clan to marry a boy from the Nagdyal clan
