Politics
Her father Nirmal Singh has been member of Congress since 1974. But in 2019 Vidhan Sabha election Congress denied her ticket from Ambala Cantt Vidhan Sabha election, so she contested as an Independent candidate but lost. She came second as an Independent candidate and got 44,406 votes against Minister Anil Vij of BJP who got around 64,571 votes the difference was around 20,000 votes and the congress candidate Venu Singla came third with 8,534 votes only. She could have won if congress gave her ticket. Anil Vij and Nirmal Singh have fought against each other from 2009 and 2014 each time Anil Vij won. In 2019 Nirmal Singh and Chitra joined Aam Admi Party (AAP), hope she will defeat Anil Vij in 2024 election. She came back to congress on 5 January 2024
