Deo (देव) is a town in Aurangabad district in the Indian state of Bihar.

Location

Deo is located 12 km away from Aurangabad. Deo is located at 26.39°N 84.26°E. It has an average elevation of 89 metres.

Variants

History

Historically, the town was the centre of the Deo Raj zamindari estate. Deo is also known as Dev Town.

Deo Sun Temple: THe Deo Sun Temple built in the 8th century, is one of the few surviving sun temples in India and visited by both pilgrims and tourists.[1]

Deo Fort: Deo Fort is one of the architectural structure in Deo, Bihar. The fort is located next to Deo Surya Mandir and faces northwards.

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[2] ने लेख किया है ...देव (AS, p.441) तहसील औरंगाबाद, जिला गया बिहार. इस स्थान पर एक प्राचीन सूर्य मंदिर के अवशेष है जिसे किंवदंती के अनुसार मूलरूप से राजा पुरुरवा ऐल ने बनवाया था. मुसलमानों के आक्रमण के समय इस मंदिर का विध्वंस हुआ था.इसकी मूर्तियां अधिक प्राचीन नहीं जान पड़तीं.
