Dr. Lal Chand Godara

Dr. Lal Chand Godara is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, a recipient of the University College Teaching Excellency Award, and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal. He has served as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and helped found the Australian Capital Territory Section of the IEEE in 1988.

He was its founding Chairman for three years and was also Chairman of the IEEE Australia Council during 1995 and 1996.

Lal Chand Godara (Senior Member, IEEE) received a B.E. (Hon) degree from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India; M.Tech. degree from Indian Institute of Science, Banglore, India; Ph.D. degree from the University of Newcastle, Australia; and Masters in Higher Education degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

He has served at many universities and research establishments, including Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani; Australian National University, Canberra; University of Canberra (previously Canberra College of Advanced Education); and Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad.

He has visited Stanford University, Yale University, and Syracuse University as a research scholar and is currently an associate professor at the University College, the University of New South Wales, Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra.

His research interests include adaptive antenna array processing and their application to mobile communications, which has resulted in a large number of publications in highly reputed international journals, including two very significant papers in the proceedings of the IEEE.

He founded the Australian Capital Territory Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, New York (IEEE) and held the position of Chairman of the ACT Section of IEEE for three years. During this time he represented the Section in the IEEE Region 10 meetings held in Bali, Indonesia; Penang, Malaysia and Madras, India; and the Sections Congress 90 held in Toronto, Canada.
