Kakapura

Kakapura (काकपुर), modern name Kagpur (कागपुर), is an ancient village in Vidisha tahsil situated 20 miles north of Bhilsa (Vidisha) , in Madhya Pradesh. Its population is 2,194.

History
It is full of ancient monuments. We know of the Kakas, an autonomous community mentioned in the Allahabad Inscription of Samudragupta. Their modern descendants are the Kakrana or Kak gotra Jats. Kakapura on a river and a hill opposite the village by the road has two square temples and a few Gupta Sculptures. A large number of pillars and Sati memorials cover the plain in front of the temple hill. Medieval inscriptions are also in evidence. These archaeological findings with the temples testify to the continued importance of the place, from the Gupta to the medieval period. [1]

काकपुर
काकपुर एक प्राचीन गाँव का नाम है, जो विदिशा से 16 मील (लगभग 25.6 कि.मी.) की दूरी पर स्थित है। इस गाँव के विषय में कहा जाता है कि यह लगभग ईसा की प्रथम सदी से ही बसा हुआ है। यहाँ से मिले मंदिर के अवशेषों का अध्ययन करने से पता चलता है कि ये मंदिर 9वीं-10वीं सदी में परमार राजाओं के शासन काल में बने होंगे। काकपुर गाँव के उत्तर की तरफ़ बाँह नदी बहती है। बाँह नदी के निकट बड़े-बड़े पत्थरों से निर्मित पुल के निशान मिले हैं। माना जाता है कि मुग़ल बादशाह औरंगज़ेब ने अपनी सेना को दक्षिण की ओर जाने के लिए यह पुल बनवाया था। इसी क्षेत्र में स्थित "अगरा वरखेड़ा" नामक गढ़ी को महाराजा भोज के वंशजों ने बनवाया था।[3]
