Kalashapura (कलशपुर) was an ancient city probably in northern Malayadvipa or southern Brahmadesha on the banks of Sittaung River. It was founded by Indian rulers.

History

The Sittaung River; formerly, the Sittang or Sittoung), is a river in south central Myanmar in Bago Division. The Pegu Range separates its basin from that of the Irrawaddy. The river originates at the edge of the Shan Hills southeast of Mandalay, and flows southward to the Gulf of Martaban.

Indian Origin Places in Burma

Dineschandra Sircar[1] writes.... Among Sanskrit-Pali names in Burma, mention may be made of Golanagara or Golamrittikanagara (modern Ayetthema, 20 miles north of Thaton, Gola being supposed to stand for Gauda[2] Kalasapura (to the south eat of Prome near the mouth of Sittang,[3] Ramapura (Moulmein), Ramanyadesh (Lowe Burma)[4] and Shri (Bhamo or Tagaung).[5]. The principalities of Pushkaravati, Trihakumbha, Asitanjana and Ramyanagara were situated in the region of Rangoon, Ramavati and Dhanyavati (modern Rakhaingmyu being situated in Arakan[6] The city of Shrikshetra has been located at Hmawza near Prome. Sudharmapura is modern Thaton and the city of Arimardanapura is Pagan situated in the land of Tattadesha and the kingdom of Tamradvipa [7]

कलशपुर

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[8] ने लेख किया है ...कलशपुर (AS, p.147) कथासरित्सागर में कलशपुर नामक एक राज्य का उल्लेख है जो श्री मजूमदार के अनुसार उत्तर मलयप्रायद्वीप या दक्षिण ब्रह्मदेश में सित्तंग नदी के मुहाने पर तथा प्रोम के दक्षिण पूर्व में स्थित था (देखें हिंदू कॉलोनीज इन द फार ईस्ट पृ.197). प्राचीन काल में कलशपुर भारतीय उपनिवेश था. इसके बसाये जाने का काल है अनिश्चित है किंतु मलयप्रायद्वीप [p.148]: तथा भारत के परस्पर व्यापारिक संबंध ई. सन से कई सौ वर्ष पूर्व ही स्थापित हो गए थे. मलाया भारतीय निवेशों के बसाए जाने का क्रम चौथी-पांचवी सदी तक चलता रहा.
