Kapal Mochan-Jagadhari-Yamuna Nagar, Haryana

Kapal Mochan (कपाल मोचन) is a village in tahsil Jagadhari of Yamunanagar district in Haryana. It is an ancient place of pilgrimage for both Hindus and Sikhs. It is also called Gopal Mochan and Somsar Mochan.

It is located 17 km north-east of Jagadhari town, on the Bilaspur road.

History

It is also called Gopal Mochan and Somsar Mochan. As per Legend, Brāhmanahatya i.e. killing of Brahmin is considered as a major sin, but one who kills a Brahmin and bath here, his Brāhmanahatya sins will be washed. Nearby Bilaspur, Haryana (not to be confused with Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh) in Yamuna Nagar District which takes its name from the corrupted form of "Vyas Puri", was the ashram of Ved Vyasa rishi where he wrote the Mahabharata on the banks of Sarasvati river near Adi Badri where Sarasvati river leaves Himalayas and enters the plains.[1]

It is one of the most ancient vedic religious site in Haryana along with 48 kos parikrama of Kurukshetra and Dhosi Hill.

Adi Badri, Amadalpur, Buria, Chhachhrauli, Chaneti Buddhist Stupa and Sugh Ancient Mound are other nearby ancient sites.

Mela Kapal Mochan

It is an ancient place of pilgrimage to both Hindus & Sikhs. Its importance is evident from the fact that its name appears at numerous places in Mahabharata and Puranas. Kapal Mochan has been described as famous in all the three mythological worlds. It is the destroyer of all sins. The devotees get rid of sins by taking a dip in the sacred tank. Kapal Mochan is a natural hollow near the bank of Saraswati River. This place was also visited by Guru Gobind Singh after the battle of Bhangani in 1679 AD on his way to Paonta Sahib. He stayed and worshipped here for 52 days. His soldiers cleaned their weapons and tested them to meet future challenges. He gave a copper plate having his signature as memento to the chief priest of Kapal Mochan. Dropati and five Pandavas also visited this holy place.[2]

कपाल मोचन

कपाल मोचन भारत के हरियाणा राज्य के यमुनानगर ज़िले में जगाधरी से 17 किलोमीटर पूर्वोत्तर में बिलासपुर जाने वाले मार्ग पर स्थ्ति एक प्राचीन हिन्दू और सिख तीर्थस्थल है। इसे गोपाल मोचन और सोमसर मोचन भी कहा जाता है।

मान्यतानुसार, ब्रह्मानहत्य, यानी ब्राह्मण की हत्या को एक बड़ा पाप माना जाता है, लेकिन जो यहां ब्राह्मण को मारता है और स्नान करता है, उसके ब्राह्मण्यः पापों को धोया जाएगा। आसपास का बिलासपुर, जो "व्यास पुरी" के दूषित रूप से अपना नाम रखता है, वेद व्यास ऋषि के आश्रम थे, जहां उन्होंने सरस्वती के तट पर महाभारत लिखा था आदि बद्री के पास नदी जहां सरस्वती नदी हिमालय से निकलती है और मैदानी इलाकों में प्रवेश करती है।

इस स्थान का पुराणों और महाभारत में उल्लेख पाया जाता है, और महादेव, राम और पांडव ने यहाँ का दौरा किया था। ऐतिहासिक महादेव मंदिर, गौ बाचा मंदिर और प्राचीन पूल के साथ गुरुद्वारा है।हर साल, करीब पांच लाख तीर्थयात्री नवंबर के दौरान वार्षिक "कपल मोचन मेला" के दौरान इस स्थान पर जाते हैं।
