Location of Tamluk in the Midnapur district, West Bengal

Karvata (कर्वट) was ancient kingdom mentioned in Mahabharata which was subjugated by Bhima. It was probably located near south Bengal or Tamralipti (Tamluk in the Midnapur).

Sandhya Jain[1] mentions in the list of Tribes With unclear Position in Kurukshetra War: Karvata (कर्वट) - Possibly a Bengal tribe whose king was conquered by Bhima (II.27.22).

कर्वट

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[2] ने लेख किया है ...कर्वट (p.147): समुद्रसेनं निर्जित्य चन्द्रसेनं च पार्थिवम्, ताम्रलिप्तिं च राजानं कर्वटाधिपतिं तथा' (महाभारत सभा.30,24). भीम ने कर्वटनरेश को अपनी दिग्विजया यात्रा में पराजित किया था. प्रसंगानुसार कर्वट की स्थिति दक्षिण बंगाल या ताम्रलिपति के निकट जान पड़ती है.

Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 27 mentions the countries subjugated by Bhimasena. [3].... And having vanquished Samudrasena and king Chandrasena and Tamralipta, and also the king of the Karvatas and the ruler of the Suhmas, as also the kings that dwelt on the sea-shore, that bull among the Bharatas then conquered all Mlechchha tribes.
