Keshaputra (केशपुत्र) was a Buddhist city and capital of Kalamavanshi Kings during Buddha's times.

Kish is modern Tell al-Uhaymir (Babil Governorate, Iraq), and was an ancient city of Sumer. Kish is located some 12 km east of Babylon, and 80 km south of Baghdad (Iraq). Formerly known as Kesh or Kish which Arrian[1] has mentioned as Nautaca captured by Alexander the Great in 327 BC.

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[2] ने लेख किया है ...केशपुत्र = केसपुत्र (AS, p.225): बुद्ध काल में कालामवंशीयों की राजधानी थी। 'अराड़' नामक बुद्ध का समकालीन दार्शनिक इन्हीं से संबंधित था- 'स कालामसगोत्रेणतेनालोक्यैव दूरत:, उच्चै: स्वागतमित्युक्त: समीपमुपजग्मिवान्' (बुद्ध चरित- 12, 2.)

अराड़ के पास गौतम बुद्ध ‘जरामरण रोग’ का उपचार जानने के लिए गए थे। (बुद्ध चरित 12, 14.) केशपुत्र नगर संभवत: 'बुद्धचरित' बुद्धचरित 12, 1 (‘अराडस्याश्रमं भेजे वपुषा पूरयन्निव’) में वर्णित आश्रम के निकट ही रहा होगा। संभवत: यह स्थान गोमती नदी के तट पर कोसल जनपद (उत्तर प्रदेश) में स्थित था। 'शतपथ ब्राह्मण' (वैदिक इंडेक्स 1, पृ. 186) तथा पाणिनि 6, 4, 165 में उल्लिखित 'केशीलोग' शायद इसी स्थान के निवासी थे। 'अंगुत्तरनिकाय' 1, 188. के अनुसार 'केशपुत्त' की स्थिति कोसल जनपद में थी। वाल्मीकि रामायण उत्तर. 52, 1-2 में उल्लिखित केशिनी नदी संभवत: इसी जनपद की नदी थी।
