Krakuchchhanda

Krakuchchhanda (क्रकुच्छंद) is one of the ancient Buddhas whose biography is chronicled in chapter 22[1] of the Buddhavamsa, one of the books of the Pāli Canon.

History
Modern day Gotihawa, a village located about 4 kms southeast of Kapilavastu, in Nepal, was known as Khemavati in ancient times. According to Theravāda Buddhist tradition, Kakusandha Buddha was born in Khemavati.
According to Theravāda Buddhist tradition, Kakusandha is the twenty-fifth of the twenty-nine named Buddhas, the fourth of the Seven Buddhas of Antiquity, and the first of the five Buddhas of the present kalpa.[2]
The present kalpa is called the bhadrakalpa (Auspicious aeon). The five Buddhas of the present kalpa are:[3]
- Kakusandha (the first Buddha of the bhadrakalpa)
- Koṇāgamana (the second Buddha of the bhadrakalpa)
- Kassapa (the third Buddha of the bhadrakalpa)
- Gautama (the fourth and present Buddha of the bhadrakalpa)
- Maitreya (the fifth and future Buddha of the bhadrakalpa)
नाभक
विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[4] ने लेख किया है ... नाभक (AS, p.492) शिलाभिलेख 13 में मौर्य - सम्राट अशोक ने नाभक के 'नाभपंतियों' का उल्लेख किया है। संभवत: नाभक: चीनी यात्री फाह्यान द्वारा उल्लिखित 'ना-पेई किया' नाम का स्थान है जो उसके समय में कपिलवस्तु (नेपाल की तराई) से 10 मील दक्षिण-पश्चिम की ओर स्थित 'क्रकुच्छंद' बुद्ध के जन्म-स्थान के रूप में प्रख्यात था।
