Late Ch. Mani Ram Godara

Ch. Mani Ram Godara (b: Nov, 17, 1925; d: June 15, 2009) was Member of Parliament (5th Lok Sabha, 1971) from Hisar constituency, Haryana. He was also Member of Legislative Assembly of undivided Punjab in 1955-57 and 1957-62. After formation of separate Haryana state, he was elected MLA in 1967 and also held the portfolio of Irrigation and power Minister, Haryana (1967). Haryana Government renames the college

Chandigarh, August 13, 2014 : Haryana Government has decided to rename the Government College for Women, Bhodia Khera in district Fatehabad as Ch. Mani Ram Godara Government College for Women after the name of former Haryana Minister Ch. Mani Ram Godara. Ch. Mani Ram Godara was a senior leader of Hisar area who passed away on June 15, 2009.

Ch. Mani Ram was elected legislator in joint Punjab in the year 1955 and again in 1957. Thereafter, he was elected as Member of Haryana Vidhan Sabha in the year 1967 and 1996. He also served on the portfolio of Power Minister, Irrigation Minister and Home Minister. Apart from this, he also represented Hisar Parliamentary Constituency in the year 1971.[1]

Obituary

(June 15, 2009) Former Haryana Home Minister Mani Ram Godara died in his sleep last night at his native village Neemari in Fatehabad district. A large number of people attended his cremation at Neemri today and paid tributes to the departed leader.

Godara was 86 and had been ill for quite some time.

A close associate of late Haryana chief minister Bansi Lal, Godara was Home Minister in his government. He was known for his honesty and straightforwardness.

Godara was elected legislator for the first time in 1955 from Fatehabad and was also elected Member of Parliament in 1971 from Hisar. After the fall of Bansi Lal's government in Haryana, he quit politics.[2]
