Markul (मरकुल) is an ancient village in Pangi (Killar) tehsil of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. It is located at the junction of 'Miyar Nala' with the Chandrabhaga. It is known for Markula Devi Temple. It is now called Udaipur.

History
Udaipur in Himachal is a picturesque town, located on the banks of the Chandrabhaga River in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It is renowned for the ancient Marikula Mata Temple, which is visited by both Hindus and Buddhist pilgrims. The place is located at an altitude of 2,742 meters above sea level and it is named after king Udai Singh of Chamba. Earlier the place was known as Markul because the temple is dedicated to Markula Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Durga.[1]
Markula Devi Temple
Markula Devi or Mrikula Devi Temple in Lahaul Valley is dedicated to goddess Kali and was constructed in 11th century AD. Temple is made out of wood & stones and is a perfect example of Himachali architecture. The temple is also rich with Kashmiri art work and has some beautifully carved walls and ceilings to admire. Historical scenes from the period of Ramayana and Mahabharata are depicted on the walls of the temple. [2]
Pangi Valley: Pangi Valley in the upper part of Chamba District is a remote world in itself. This hidden valley located between Pir Panjal and the Greater Himalayan Zanskar ranges is cut off from the rest of the world. [3]

मरकुला (AS, p.712) जिला पंगी, हिमाचल प्रदेश में स्थित है. भारत-भोट वास्तु शैली में निर्मित प्राचीन मंदिर के लिए यह स्थान उल्लेखनीय है. मंदिर काष्ठ-निर्मित है. [4]
मरकुला देवी का मंदिर: चंबा जिले के गांव में स्थित मरकुला देवी का कलापूर्ण मंदिर है. तिब्बत के बौद्ध यात्री इस मंदिर में स्थापित देवी को मरकुला देवी न कहकर इसे ‘दौरजे फम्मो’ कहते हैं. [5]
