Perur (पेरूर) is an agricultural area located on western side of Coimbatore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has famous Shiva Temple, Patteeswarar.

According to the Tamil Nadu, Senthandivakaram any place which has more than 500 families will be considered as Perur.[1] So in ancient times this must be a fertile land and populated area.
Location
Perur is situated about 7 km from Coimbatore. The area is mostly agricultural. Predominantly Cash crops like coconut, banana are grown in Perur .
History
Perur Pateeswarar Temple
Perur Pateeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva located at Perur, in western part of Coimbatore in state of Tamil Nadu in India. The temple was built by Karikala Chola in 2nd Century.[2]The temple is located 7 km west of the Noyyal River and has been patronized by poets like Arunagirinathar and Kachiappa Munivar. Lord Shiva, known as ‘Patteeswarar’, is the presiding deity of this temple together with his consort Parvati, who is known as ‘Pachainayaki’. The deity is believed to be ‘Swayambu Lingam’ (self emerged). The pillars raised in this temple depict the architectural prowess of the Tamil sculptors.
Over the period of time, this temple is known by different names such as: Kamadenupuri, pattipuri, Adhipuri, Daksha Kailasham, Thavasiddhapuram, Gnanapuram, Kalyanapuram, Pirava Neri Thalam, Pasupathipuram, Western Chidambaram.[3]

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[4] ने लेख किया है .....पेरूर (AS, p.577): यह स्थान एक मध्यकालीन सुंदर पत्तिश्वर शिवमंदिर के लिए उल्लेखनीय है. इस मंदिर के प्रवेश द्वारों और छाजनों की शोभा अनोखी जान पड़ती है.
