Pooja Kadyan

Pooja Kadiyan (Born: 1 October 1991) is a Wushu player from Haryana.

She won Silver Medal in invitational sports of Wushu at the 9th World Games at Cali in Colombia, in Women's Sanda 60kg.

Kadian previously won gold in the 12th South Asian Games and also bagged silver medals in the World Games 2013 and the World Championship in 2013 and 2015. She also won gold medals in the National Games in 2014 and 2017.

Pooja Kadian won the first ever gold medal for India at 2017 World Wushu Championships.

Pooja Kadian on Wednesday created history as she bagged India's first ever gold medal at Wushu World Championships in Russia. Pooja, an ace Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) Wushu champion, finished on top of the podium in the 75 kg women's Sanda Category after defeating Evgeniya Stepanova of Russia in the final.

She had earlier defeated Egypt's Heba Abdelkader 2-0 in the semifinals to reach the finals of the 14th edition of the World Wushu Championships being held at Kazan, Russia. Four other Indians also landed on the podium in the World Championships.

Even before, she has shown her field competence in Wushu by bagging a number of medals in both national and international events.

While Pooja had won gold in the 12th South Asian Games, she had also bagged silver medals in the World Games 2013, World Championship 2013 and World Championship 2015 respectively.

Besides, she also won gold medals in the National Games in 2014 and 2017.

She is currently serving as a head constable in the CRPF.

What is Wushu?

Wushu is a popular sport which finds its roots in China. Wushu Association of India describes it as a game which pays attention to both internal and external exercises with fighting movements as its main content, and with routine exercises and free combat as its forms. The game first came to India in 1989. The game is played as a Medal Event in National Games. Late Sri Anand Kacker, the first President of Wushu Association of India, is considered pivotal in bringing sports to the country. The game, and WAI – its governing body, have been given approval from the Govt of India, the Olympic Committee and military, Paramilitary forces. The game is classified into two major categories – Sanshou and Taolou.
