Pradeep Kumar Khichar
Pradeep Kumar Khichar is an Industrial Engineer and presently posted at Technical Secretariat of CMD, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited. He is from village Bahia in Sirsa district of Haryana.
Education and Career
He is graduated from NIT, Kurukshetra (Gold Medalist) in year 2015 and presently pursing his PhD from Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT (BHU), Varanasi. Since his joining at Coal India Limited in year 2015, he has taken several strategic initiatives for sustainable development of the organization as well as coalfield areas. Establishment of SARAS (R&D Centre of NCL), NCL-IIT (BHU) Incubation Centre, Technology Centre and 2 number of Satellite Centres at village level for developing and promoting sustainable technologies for precision agriculture as well as for promoting Khadi and Handloom for women empowerment in tribal areas, etc. are some of the initiatives taken by him. Presently he is also serving as Member JPC and coordinator of “Singrauli Eco-Tourism Circuit” for promoting eco-tourism/village tourism/mine tourism as an strategic initiative of NCL and MP State Tourism Development Corporation.
Beside having 3 national patents in the field of IoT based autonomous surface irrigation, motorized slide gate valve and Gimbaled shoulder friction stir welding, he has also authored several papers for both international and national journals as well as conferences. For 4 consecutive years, he has been conferred with “Special Achievement Award” by NCL. He is the first engineer and officer of the Coal India Limited, who has introduced industrial application of additive manufacturing in coal mining sector. In order to promote entrepreneurship and best suitable models for sustainable village economy, he is also working as coordinator for the initiative of M.P. State Govt. in the fields of Agri Drone manufacturing and pilot training, Agripreneurship training, IIoT training, Seedball broadcasting by drones, use of farm waste in mine dump slope stabilization, promoting use of biogas through Gobar Bank, use of bamboo in different applications, Soil Testing through village level agri-clinic, Precision Irrigation, applications of ML & AI in Agriculture, Pest and Pathogen prediction model and applications of mechatronics in Agriculture.
Being posted at Secretariat of CMD, NCL, he is the youngest officer having overall responsibility of providing assistance to CMD in all technical matters as and when required, ensuring proper coordination with Areas, Units and different departments of NCL, CIL and Ministry of Coal to achieve annual target of the organization with inclusive development of all stakeholders in all areas.
Developed smart irrigation system
After 9 years of struggle, he got 1st patent for indigenously developed smart irrigation system, especially targeting flood/surface irrigation (Having share of 92% in total irrigated land in country). The system is designed and configured as per Indian Conditions for benefiting Indian farmers at community level. The same system has application for automatic gravity drip irrigation in mine dump reclamation as well as for dust suppression.
