Rakesh Kumar Chotiya (02.06.1982 - 24.1.2018), from village Dheerdesar Chotiyan, Dungargarh, Bikaner, Rajasthan became martyr on 24.1.2018 fighting with terrorists in Arunachal Pradesh, India. He belonged to 11 Grenadiers of Indian Army.

Introduction
Naik Rakesh Kumar Chotia hailed from Dhirdesar Chotian village of Bikaner district in Rajasthan and belonged to 11 Grenadiers of Indian Army. While deployed in the North East, he was martyred on 24 Jan 2018, during a counter-insurgency operation.
On 24th Jan 2018, credible information was received from the intelligence sources about the presence of militants in the Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh. After analyzing the situation, the security forces decided to launch a combing operation to nab the militants. The suspected militants belonged to CorCom, a short name for Coordination Committee in Manipur, which was responsible for many bombings usually associated with Indian holidays and elections. Also, some more militants belonging to ULFA (I) (The United Liberation Front of Assam), who were involved in terrorist activities for a sovereign state of Assam through armed struggle, were expected to be in that area.
When the army convoy of 11 Grenadiers was returning after conducting an operation against militants an “Improvised Explosive Device” (IED) blast was triggered by ULFA (I) militants. Though the Army convoy of 11 Grenadiers, which was passing in between Nongtau and Piyong road around 9 AM escaped the IED blast, a civilian vehicle, which was following the Army convoy was slightly damaged. 11 Grenadiers Regiment, which came under attack, immediately launched attack after the IED blast. The Army troops cordoned off the area and launched the operation against the militants, hiding in the nearby forest area. During the heavy exchange of fire, Naik Rakesh Kumar got seriously wounded and later succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.

नायक राकेश कुमार चोटिया का जन्म 2 जून 1982 को राजस्थान प्रांत के बीकानेर जिले की श्री डूंगरगढ़ तहसील के गांव धीरदेसर चोटियान में पिता चौधरी श्री भैराराम चोटिया और माता श्रीमती लिछमा देवी के परिवार में हुआ।
12 जनवरी 2000 को ग्रेनेडियर्स रेजिमेंटल सेंटर जबलपुर से वह भारतीय सेना की ग्रेनेडियर्स रेजिमेंट में सिपाही के पद पर भर्ती हुए और बाद में प्रोन्नत हो कर नायक के पद पर पहुंचे।
वर्ष 2018 में वह पूर्वोत्तर भारत के अरूणाचल प्रदेश में तैनात थे। 24 जनवरी 2018 को सेना को खुफिया सूत्रों से नामसाई जिले में आतंकवादियों के होने की विश्वसनीय जानकारी प्राप्त हुई। स्थिती का विश्लेषण करने के बाद सुरक्षा बलों ने आतंकवादियों को पकड़ने के लिए तलाशी अभियान चलाने का निर्णय किया।
संदिग्ध आतंकवादी मणिपुर के CorCom (Coordination Committee) नाम के संगठन के थे, यह संगठन आमतौर पर चुनावों से जुड़े कई बम विस्फोटों के लिए जिम्मेदार था। साथ ही, उस क्षेत्र में असम के उल्फा आतंकवादियों के होने का भी अनुमान था।
सुबह 09 बजे के आसपास जब 11 ग्रेनेडियर्स का काफिला आतंकवादियों के विरूद्ध कार्यवाही कर के वापस लौट रहा था। तभी उल्फा आतंकवादियों ने रास्ते में एक आईईडी (IMPROVED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE) विस्फोट किया। हालांकि 11 ग्रेनेडियर्स का काफिला जो नोंगटाउ और प्योंग के बीच से गुजर रहा था, इस आईईडी विस्फोट से बच गया परंतु पीछे आ रहा एक नागरिक वाहन मामूली क्षतिग्रस्त हो गया।
11 ग्रेनेडियर्स रेजिमेंट ने आईईडी विस्फोट के तुरंत बाद हमला शुरू कर दिया। सेना के जवानों ने इस इलाके की घेराबंदी कर के पास के जंगल में छिपे आतंकवादियों के खिलाफ अभियान शुरू किया। दोनों तरफ से हुई भारी गोलीबारी के दौरान नायक राकेश कुमार गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए और बाद में अस्पताल ले जाते समय रास्ते में ही वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए।
नायक राकेश कुमार छुट्टियां बिता कर 15 दिन पूर्व ही घर से गए थे, और वह 31 जनवरी 2018 को वह सेवानिवृत्त होने वाले थे। इनका पार्थिव शरीर जब श्री डूंगरगढ़ कस्बे पहुंचा तो श्रद्धाजंलि देने अभूतपूर्व जनसमूह उमड़ पड़ा।

29 अप्रैल 2023 को मुख्यमंत्री गहलोत द्वारा नायक राकेश चोटिया की प्रतिमा का अनावरण किया गया।
