विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[2] ने लेख किया है .....1. रामगढ़ (AS, p.787) उत्तर प्रदेश का एक ऐतिहासिक ग्राम है। यह ग्राम उत्तर-पूर्व रेलवे के राजवाड़ी स्टेशन से 7 मील की दूरी पर है। इस ग्राम का संबंध 'महाभारत' के राजा विराट से बताया जाता है। राजा 'वैरत' या 'विराट' का टूटा-फूटा एक क़िला भी यहाँ स्थित है। क़िले और गंगा के बीच एक प्राचीन ताल है, जिसे 'भक्तिन ताल' कहते हैं। इसके पश्चिमी तट पर 'रामशाला मंदिर' है, जहाँ कई प्रसिद्ध संतों का निवास स्थान रहा है। रामगढ़ में प्राचीन काल के खंडहरों के कई टीले हैं।
