Shankukarna (शङ्कुकर्ण) was a Nagavanshi mahapurusha.

History

Adi Parva, Mahabharata/Mahabharata Book I Chapter 57 tells Names of all those Nagas that fell into the fire of the snake-sacrifice. Shankukarna is mentioned in shloka 14 as Nagas of race of Dhritarashtra.

शङ्कुकर्णः पिङ्गलकः कुठार मुखमेचकौ
पूर्णाङ्गदः पूर्णमुखः परहसः शकुनिर दरिः Mahabharata: (I.5.14)

The Mahabharata Book 9: Chapter 44 Shalya Parva Kisari Mohan Ganguli, tr. 1883-1896 mentions about the warriors who came to the ceremony for investing Kartikeya with the status of generalissimo. Shankukarna (शङ्कुकर्ण) has been mentioned in shlokas 47 and 52 as under:

उन्मादं पुष्पदन्तंशङ्कुकर्णं तदैव च
परथथाव अग्निपुत्राय पार्वती शुभदर्शना ।। 47 ।।
unmādaṃ puṣpadantaṃ ca śaṅkukarṇaṃ tathaiva ca
pradadāv agniputrāya pārvatī śubhadarśanā ।। 47 ।।
शङ्कुकर्णॊ निकुम्भशपद्मः कुमुद एव च
अनन्तॊ द्वादश भुजस तदा कृष्णॊपकृष्णकौ ।। 52 ।।
śaṅkukarṇo nikumbhaś ca padmaḥ kumuda eva ca
ananto dvādaśa bhujas tathā kṛṣṇopakṛṣṇakau ।। 52 ।।
