Sharmaka

Sharmaka (शर्मक) refers to a famous rural region in the northeast of India. Sharmaka is a country mentioned in the Mahābhārata (cf. II.27.12), which was subjugated by Bhīmasena during his triumphal tour. (Sabhā Parva, Chapter 30, Verse 13).[1]

Sabha Parva, Mahabharata/Book II Chapter 27 mentions the countries subjugated by Bhimasena. Sharmaka (शर्मक) is mentioned in Mahabharata (II.27.12). [2]....Then Bhima, with scarcely any degree of exertion and very soon, vanquished the Southern Mallas (Dakshinamallas) and the Bhogavanta mountains. And the hero next vanquished, by policy alone, the Sharmakas and the Varmakas. And that tiger among men then defeated with comparative ease that lord of earth, Janaka the king of the Videhas.

शर्भक (AS, p.891) पाठांतर शर्मक (AS, p.891). 'शर्मकान भर्भकांश चैव व्यजयत् सान्त्वपूर्वकम्, वैदेहकं च राजानं जनकं जगतीपतिम्'- महाभारत सभापर्व 30,131. संदर्भ से शर्भक देश की स्थिति पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश और मिथिला या विदेह के बीच के भू-भाग के अंतर्गत जान पड़ती है. (देखें भर्भक)[3]
