Unai

Unai (उनाई)^[1] ^[2]is a gotra of Jats. ^[3]

Origin

Jats of descendants of Utanka (उतंक)/Uttanka (उत्तंक) rishi were known as Unai. ^[4]

History

Uttanka (उत्तंक) was sage dwelling in the desert who obtains a boon from Krishna : when he needs water in the desert, it will be given to him. Yet when Krishna comes to him in the guise of an outcaste hunter and offers him water polluted with urine, Uttanka refuses the offer.
