Utpala (उत्पल) is name of a Forest mentioned in Mahabharata (III.85.11), (XIII.26.33). Utpalaka (उत्पलक) was a Nagavanshi King. [1]

Utpalavana (उत्पलवन) (Forest) is mentioned in Mahabharata (III.85.11), (XIII.26.33)
Vana Parva, Mahabharata/Book III Chapter 85 mentions sacred asylums, tirthas, mountans and regions of eastern country. Utpalavana (उत्पलवन) (Forest) is mentioned in Mahabharata (III.85.11). [3]....In the country of Panchala, there is a wood called Utpala (उत्पल) (III.85.11), where Vishwamitra of Kushika's race had performed sacrifices with his son, and where beholding the relics of Viswamitra's superhuman power, Rama, the son of Jamadagni, recited the praises of his ancestry.
Anusasana Parva/Book XIII Chapter 26 mentions the sacred waters on the earth. Utpalavana (उत्पलवन) is mentioned in Mahabharata (XIII.26.33).[4]..... Bathing in Gangahrada and the tirtha known by the name of Utpalavana and daily offering oblations of water there for a full month to the Pitris, one acquires the merit of a Horse-sacrifice.
उत्पलावन-उत्पलारण्य
उत्पलावन या उत्पलारण्य (जिला कानपुर) (AS, p.93): बिठूर का प्राचीन नाम है। वन पर्व महाभारत 87,15 में उत्पलावन का उल्लेख इस प्रकार है- 'पंचालेषु च कौरव्य कथयन्त्युत्पलावनम् विश्वामित्रोऽयजद् यत्र पुत्रेण सह कौशिक:'।
