Verma (वर्मा) Varma (वर्मा) is surname of Jats, though other communities also use this surname. The title was used historically by Kshatriyas.

- Varma (वर्म) in Sanskrit means an armour used for protection by the warriors.
- The word Varman derives from Varamban as in the Chera king title Vana-varamban, meaning one whose kingdom is bounded by the sky. [1]
