Venkatachala (वेंकटाचल) is one of the seven hill at Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh. Sheshachala (शेषाचल) is the seventh hill.

History
Venkateswara (वेङ्कटेश्वर) is a form of the Hindu god Maha Vishnu. Venkateswara is the presiding deity of Tirumala Venkateswara Temple located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. Venkateswara literally means "Lord of Venkata". The word is a combination of the words Venkata (the name of a hill in Andhra Pradesh) and Ishvara ("Lord").
The Seshachalam Hills are hilly ranges part of the Eastern Ghats in southern Andhra Pradesh state, in southeastern India. Tirupati, a major Hindu pilgrimage town is located in the hills. The hills contain seven peaks namely, Anjanadri, Garudadri, Narayanadri, Neeladri, Seshadri, Venkatadri and Vrishabhadri, the highest at about 600 m (2,000 ft) above sea level. The seven peaks are said to represent the seven hoods of Lord Adisesha, the king of serpents in Hindu mythology. The Srivenkateshwara National Park is also located in these ranges. The famous Natural Arch, Tirumala Hills is also a part of Seshachalam Hills, which dates back to the period in between Middle and Upper Proterozoic Eon.

विजयेन्द्र कुमार माथुर[1] ने लेख किया है .....वेंकटाचल = वेंकटरमनाचलम् = शेषाचल (p.871): तिरुमला पहाड़ी की सातवीं चोटी का नाम है, जो आंध्र प्रदेश में स्थित है। यह चोटी समुद्र तल से लगभग 2500 फुट ऊँची है। यहाँ बालाजी का प्राचीन मंदिर है। यह पत्थर की बनी तीन दीवारों से परिवृत है और तीन ही गोपुर इसको सुशोभित करते हैं। बीच में सशिखर मंदिर है, जिसका प्रांगण 410 फुट लंबा और 260 फुट चौड़ा है। मंदिर में कई प्रवेश द्वारों के भीतर से पहुंचकर सात फुट ऊँची बालाजी की पाषाण मूर्ति दृष्टिगोचर होती है। बालाजी को दक्षिण भारत के लोग वेंकटेश कहते हैं। पहाड़ी पर बालाजी के मंदिर से तीन मील की दूरी पर पापनाशिनी गंगा और दो मील पर कपिलधारा स्थित है। 'श्रीमद्भागवत' 5,19,16 में वेंकटाचल का उल्लेख है- 'श्रीशैलो वेंकटों महेंद्रो वारिधारो विंध्यः।'
