Location of Gorau in Nagaur district

Gorau (गोराउ) (Gaurau:गौराऊ) is a large, ancient village in Jayal tehsil of Nagaur district in Rajasthan. Gaurau is known for ancient Jain metal statues of Rishabhanatha, Parshvanatha, Adinatha and Padmaprabhu.

Location

PIN Code of the village is: 341023. It is situated 30km away from Jayal town and 55km away from Nagaur city. Gorau has its own gram panchayat. Dhatiyad, Ajabpura and Chawad are some of the neighbouring villages.

Origin of name

The village probably gets name after Gora Jats.

History

सीकर में स्थित जिला संग्रहालय के विविध प्रतिमा दीर्घा में

  • खरसाडू से प्राप्त 10 वी शदी की लघु आकार की मूर्तियाँ,
  • सुदरासन से प्राप्त 9 वीं शदी की विराट प्रस्तर प्रतिमाएं,
  • गौराऊ से प्राप्त ऋषभनाथ, पार्श्वनाथ, आदिनाथ व पद्मप्रभु की जैन धातु प्रतिमाएं,
  • जायल से प्राप्त पार्श्वनाथ तथा
  • रघुनाथगढ़ से प्राप्त महिषासुरमर्दिनी प्रतिमाएं हैं.
  • ग्राम गुरारा, तहसील श्रीमाधोपुर, जिला सीकर से 600 ई.पू.- 200 ई.पू. के पंचमार्क सिक्के चित्र प्रदर्शित हैं.

Notable persons

  • स्व. श्रीराम मंडा- सामंती दौर में ढिंगसरी गांव के ठाकुर द्वारा गौराउ गांव की औरण जमीन को हस्तगत कर लिया गया था। गोराउ ठाकुर के मना करने के बाद जमीन छुड़वाने के लिए जोधपुर कोर्ट में केस लड़ा और केस जीते। इनके वकील ने वो 1000 बिघा जमीन बिना जानकारी संघर्ष को समर्पित श्री राम जी के नाम चढा दी। बाद में पता चलने पर श्री राम जी ने वह जमीन गौचर में दान कर दी। दानवीर बाबा श्री राम मंडा को नमन।
