Jyoti Randhawa
Jyoti Randhawa is an Indian professional golfer who, a number of times[1][2][3][4][5][6], has been ranked amongst the top 100 professional golfers of the world, in the Official World Golf Ranking. He was born on May 4, 1972; in a Jat family of Randhawa gotra. He is born to R. S. Randhawa, who is a retired Brigadier from the prestigious Indian Army.
Family
He is married to the actress Chitrangada Singh, who shot to fame in her debut Indian movie Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisee. He has a son, named Zorawar.
The Randhawa family has a long tradition of making the nation pride. His father, R. S. Randhawa is a retired Brigadier from the Indian Army.[7] His uncle, H. S. Randhawa, retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Indian Army.[7] His grandfather had also served the nation by joining the Indian Army, and was honoured to participate in the First World War.[7]
During his student life, retired Brigadier R. S. Randhawa, has represented Punjab University in swimming.[7]
During an interview, the golfer Jyoti Randhawa said, "My dad had learnt discipline in the army and he gave it to me. When I was told to do something, I just had to do it. No question of disputing, questioning or discussing."[7]
The golfer further adds, "Many youngsters practice putting by just trying to get as many balls into the hole from different points of the green. But if you follow the systems approach to goal setting then you delimit goals, you would know that since your chipping goal is to get to six feet of the hole, then your putting goal has to be the absolute mastery of the six foot putt."[7]
Career
Jyoti Randhawa has won the 'Volvo Asian Masters Title' at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, in 2004. He is the first Indian to win the Asian P.G.A. Tour Order of Merit.[8]
He has participated in the Asian Tour[9] and the European Tour[10].
In 2002, he finished top on the Asian Tour money list. His best finish on the European Tour was tied second, in the 2004 Johnnie Walker Classic.
He has represented India in the men's World Cup (golf), in the years 2007, 2008, and 2009. He has also represented Asia in The Royal Trophy (a men's professional team golf tournament) in 2006.
He is currently the second highest Indian in the world rankings, just behind Jeev Milkha Singh.
