Kair (कैर) is a village in Najafgarh zone, west Delhi.

Location

In fact, this is situated on Haryana border, near Mitraon village. Seedipur (Haryana) is also close to it.

Kair Tree

Kair (कैर) is a tree also found in rural areas of northern India, specially in Rajasthan. It gorows as wild bush/tree in unused gounds (जो'ङा). It has bright red color flowers and the fruit is small and round in shape like berri. Unripe fruit is green which becomes red when ripe. Fruit, called Kair (कैर/कैरिया) is used in pickles mostly. Kair pickle is available now in market. It is cooked with Kejdi Pod (सांगरी) as a curry which tastes great. Villagers dry Kair/Kairiya and use it for longer periods also.

History

Notable Persons

  • Subedar Kure Ram son of Ch. Ram Rattan was the first Viceroy Commissioned Officer of the Kair village who lost his life during the British campaign of Mesopotamia in the First World War.
  • Chaudhary Bhim Singh son of Subedar Kure Ram, he was a first batch Graduate of Delhi University from prestigious St. Stephen's College, New Delhi in 1923 and selected as a P.C.S officer during British period & retired from the post of Director General of Land Records, Punjab (At that time it comprises of Whole Punjab, Haryana & Himachal Pradesh).
  • His son Lt. Col Umrao Singh was a first direct commissioned officer of the Indian Army from the village.
  • Gian Singh is an Olympian in Wrestling who participated in Los Angeles Olympics games, 1984.

It is a Sehrawat[1] gotra village.
