Kotwal (कोतवाल)[1] is a gotra of Jats[2] [3] in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Origin
Kotwal gotra is based on title. [4] Kotwal clan is found in Afghanistan.[5]

Notable persons
- Bu 'Ali Kotwal : Ariyaruk was taken from the Court to Khunduz, and after ten days he was sent to Ghazni, and given into the charge of Bu 'Ali Kotwal, who according to orders kept him some time in the fort, so secretly that nobody knew that he had been dismissed. Afterwards he was sent to Bu-l Hasan Khalaf in Ghor, who kept him in some place there.[6]
