Mani Ram Bagri
Chaudhary Mani Ram Bagri (चौधरी मनी राम बागड़ी) (b.1920 - d. 31 January, 2012) was politician from Hisar district of Haryana. He was a Jat of Bhambu gotr of village Ban mandori.
He was a former Member of Lok Sabha and a crusader for the cause of humble peasants and labourers of the country. He lived and worked throughout his life for their upliftment. The veteran parliamentarian led by example and lived an austere life.
He spent many years of his life in jail for his espousal of the struggling people whether they were farm labourers, college and school teachers or industrial workers. He was put into prison along with his close friend, Chaudhary Devi Lal former Deputy Prime Minister of India during Internal Emergency (1975-1977) for the longest time.
Renowned as an orator par excellence, he was known for his wit and depth of understanding. Having risen from a very poor Jat family he spent most of his life fighting for the under-privileged sections of Indian society. He was elected thrice to the Lok Sabha in 1962 and 1977 from Hisar Parliamentary Constituency in Haryana and, in 1980 from Mathura Constituency in Uttar Pradesh. This shows that he was equally popular as a leader of the down trodden in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. At the peak of his political career, Chaudhary Mani Ram Bagri was one of the most renowned leaders in Indian Parliament. He was the subject of various folklores in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Chaudhary Mani Ram Bagri was a close associate of the top Socialist leaders like Ram Manohar Lohia and Jayaparkash Narayan.

राजनीतिक उसूलाें और सिद्धांताें पर अडिग रहे हरियाणवी सांसद की उदाहरणीय कहानी
हिसार (मनोज हिसारी ). एक समय था जब राजनीति उसूलों पर चलती थी। नेता सिद्धांतों पर अडिग रहते थे। ऐसा ही उदाहरण हैं हरियाणा के शेरदिल कहे जाने वाले सांसद मनीराम बागड़ी का। जीवन भर समाजवाद से जुड़े रहे। 1980 के बाद का किस्सा बागड़ी परिवार के जेहन में आज भी तरोताजा है।
सांसद मनीराम बागड़ी बेटे सुभाष बागड़ी के साथ दिल्ली के अपने सरकारी आवास तीन मूर्ति लेन से पैदल ही दूध लेने जा रहे थे। तभी सामने से प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी का काफिला आ रहा था। पी.एम. इंदिरा गांधी ने काफिले को रुकवाया और गाड़ी का शीशा नीचे किया। इंदिरा गांधी ने मुस्करा कर हाथ जोड़े और मनीराम बागड़ी को नमस्ते की। उन्होंने भी इंदिरा जी का अभिवादन स्वीकार किया। मनीराम बागड़ी सिद्धांतों पर चलने वाले इंसान थे।
संसद की मुख्य गैलरी से जब प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी निकलती थीं तो सभी सांसद साइड हो जाते और हाथ जोड़कर उनका अभिवादन करते, लेकिन मनीराम बागड़ी एक तरफ खड़े हो जाते थे और कभी भी पी.एम. को नमस्ते नहीं की। किसी सांसद साथी ने इस बारे में बागड़ी से पूछा तो उन्होंने सहज भाव में उत्तर दिया।
मनीराम बागड़ी साफ शब्दों में बोले। यदि मैं प्रधानमंत्री को रोजाना नमस्ते करूंगा तो आप जैसे साथी ही कहेंगे कि वह चापलूसी कर रहे हैं कि शायद पी.एम. से कोई काम करवाना चाहते हैं। इसलिए वह पी.एम. इंदिरा गांधी को नमस्ते नहीं करते। लेकिन जब इंदिरा गांधी पी.एम. पद से हटीं तो बागड़ी ने उनको स्वयं नमस्ते की है।
सोशलिस्ट पार्टी से जुड़े रहे मनीराम बागड़ी संसद में अपनी पार्टी के संसदीय दल के नेता थे। संसद परिसर का एक ऐसा ही किस्सा है। संसद परिसर में कांग्रेस के सांसद एस.एन. सिन्हा ने मजाक में सोशलिस्ट पार्टी के नेताओं को कहा कि मनीराम जैसे अनपढ़ को संसदीय दल का नेता कैसे बना दिया। तभी बागड़ी संसद में घुसे तो कहा कि इसका जवाब स्वयं बागड़ी जी ही देंगे।
मनीराम बागड़ी भी हाजिर जवाब थे। उन्होंने अपने हरियाणवी लहजे में कहा कि जब सत्यनारायण सिन्हा अपनी कांग्रेस पार्टी के सांसदों के साथ कनॉट प्लेस से निकलेंगे तो लोग भेड़ बकरियों का काफिला बताएंगे। लेकिन वह अपनी सोशलिस्ट पार्टी के 7 सांसदों के साथ जाएंगे तो लोग कहेंगे कि ये देखो, संसद के सात शेर जा रहे हैं। इतनी बात सुनने के बाद सिन्हा की बोलती बंद हो गई। ऐसी कई बाते हैं जो मनीराम बागड़ी की साफगोई को आम आदमी से जोड़ती थीं।

तीन बार सांसद रहे मनीराम
मनीराम बागड़ी सोशलिस्ट पार्टी के जुड़े रहे। वह 1962 और 1980 में हिसार लोकसभा तथा 1977 में जनता पार्टी की टिकट पर मथुरा लोकसभा सीट से सांसद चुने गए थे। 1952 में वह फतेहाबाद से विधायक भी रह चुके हैं। राम मनोहर लोहिया, मधु लिमये, बी.पी. मौर्य. कर्पूरी ठाकुर, महारानी पटियाला, सरदार सोहन सिंह और देश के दर्जनों दिग्गज नेता उनके हिसार स्थित आवास पर आा चुके हैं। आपातकाल में उन्होंने जेल भी काटी है। हिसार के मोती बाजार में जहां मनीराम बागड़ी का आवास है, उस चौक को बागड़ी चौक के नाम से जाना जाना जाता है। यहीं पर कभी देश और प्रदेश के बड़े-बड़े नेता बैठकर मीटिंग करते थे।[1]
Death
He had been ailing for the past few months and passed away at Hisar at the age of 91 on January 31, 2012. He is survived by two sons and three daughters.
